Holy Spirit Lord of Light

This is a translation of the sequence for Pentecost, 'Veni Creator,' here sung in English by the Dominican sisters in Cambridge. A 'sequence' is or hymn sung before the Gospel, usually on a great feast. It is called a sequence because it follows the Alleluia.

A prayer to the Holy Spirit for wisdom when facing an exam, or an interview - or a court case - will often prove invaluable, but we should allow our relationship with Him to be ever deeper, and to grow ever deeper. This hymn is a special invocation of the Holy Spirit, calling Him by many titles - Lord of light, Father of the poor, Light, consoler.

Because the Holy Spirit always draws us towards the Father and the Son, it is easy to lose sight of Him as a person also, and this is a mistake. We should not depersonalise Him (Try not to call Him 'it'!), but should strive in and with and through Him to come ever closer to God. It is in and through and with our relationship with Him that we are drawn into the Life of the Holy Trinity.
